Two days ago, news came that we’d seen the last of Willow, the sequel series on Disney+. But those reports may have been a bit hasty. Co-showrunner Jonathan Kasdan took to Twitter with a three-part statement that says Willow Volume II is “developed and written.”

Kasdan details what actually happened, which is that the cast has been released “for other series opportunities that may arise for them in the coming year.” He explains what he thinks this decision means for the people who work on the show and those who watch it:
Due to forces much larger and more intricate than I would ever pretend to fully understand, production of streaming shows is slowing down across the entire industry, and Willow won’t resume filming in the next 12 months.
But with the “enthusiastic and unwavering support of Lucasfilm and Disney,” the team has written Volume II, which “is all about courage, desire, acceptance and the comedy and beauty to be found in even the darkest places and moments.”
Kasdan then goes into some detail about the shows which have vanished and returned much later—like the recent second life for Party Down. He does, of course, mention that Willow the series came thirty-five years after Willow the film, though no one wants to suggest that it will be another three decades before Willow Volume II.
